1. Expressive writing.
Process: get a pen and journal and write very thing down all the time. Meeting notes, ideas, successes, failures, everything. Review what you’ve written recently. Synthesize and analyze your writing. Write about what you wrote. Learn from what you are experiencing. Life is a big classroom, learn from it! Don’t just slog along aimlessly.
2. Stop scrolling social media – put your phone down! 😀
Understand dopamine! High level dopamine activities are: video games, chasing social media likes, scrolling social media sites, and binge watching the latest streaming content. All of these will spike your dopamine 100 times more than just about anything else. It’s why we do it! It feels great to finish that “nightmarishly hard level” on your game. Without a doubt if you must choose between a “no effort / feel good / meaningless rewards” activity – read high dopamine – or something that takes effort and has future benefits.
3. Make your tasks a productivity game.
Gamification is a wonderful way to increase productivity. Have you ever heard someone say try to be 1% better than yesterday? This is a simple game. Figure out how to measure your work in time segments, or tasks (project manager hat on now. 🤣). Try to get 2 normal tasks done today. Tomorrow aim for getting 2.25 normal tasks done. The next day? Get 2.5 normal tasks done. Keep going and increase your “velocity” of getting stuff done over time! (velocity = number of tasks per day).
4. Enjoy your work
Work does not have to be a drag! Work can be enjoyable if you free your mind from thoughts that work is hard, boring, and not beneficial. Not true, all work is important. The idea goes that God is a working God and created man in a similar image. So we are made to work and it is good. What you do, whether it is serving coffee, digging ditches, or finding a cure for cancer is all work ordained by God. All of it is important. You are blessing others by the product of your work.
